pickguard shiv.
Evil.

the walkabout DI is a thing of beauty. some folks complain about it being 'post everything and would prefer pre everything."
not me.
the post everything sound is beautiful. sound guys and engineers have never been anything but complimentary of it to me.

...after trying to record out of the back of my F1 instead of the Walkabout I had been using before trading it (now back of course) was:

"Don't ever get rid of that head. Ever. Or I might hurt you."

He had a serious gleam in his eye and what looked like a melted-down/sharpened piece of plastic.

Hi all,

I'm thinking about ordering a Walkabout head and stacking it on top of (3) Mesa PH112's

What would be the best ohm configuration 3-8's or 3-4's or a mix?

Is it literally possible to get 100 watts to each PH112

Thanks

Think of a 2x12 and a 1x12 setup? A 1x12 for the small stuff, 2x12 for most of your work, and bring both for the biggest gigs.

I was very taken by the tone but bummed about the fan noise. Now that I have some info on swapping the fan, I've plunged and ordered a W-head (in case) and separate W-15 cab so I can put the head on my Epi stack as well. They'll be in custom coverings and should (supposedly) be ready by Early August......I hate waiting....but fast food isn't good, and good food isn't fast........Many thanks for directing me to the posts about swapping fans. Great source of info this TB thang!

Chef, you said you have run your Walkabout at 2 ohms and never had issues right? I'm wondering if I can run the 4 ohm Schroeder 15L I just got with my scout at larger gigs and not have to worry about it.

I can tell you, that works very, very well

Chef,

You were not kidding about the WA with two Diesel 15s. That was the sweetest sound ever to emanate from any rig. I set it up as the backline for a 3 band blues gig, and got to listen to it from the audience for the first band. Sweet and round and just perfect for the blues. Players and audience alike were raving on the tone.
I used it backing the next two bands, and after the show I was thinking that really there is no need for me ever to use anything else but the WA. For the small to medium sized places I play (and am likely to continue to play), that head delivered more than enough goods to thump asses in seats, vibrate our harp players harps off his stand, and to keep the dance floor full.
I set the gain and master both at noon and dialed the volume on my L2K back about a third. If I ever need it any louder, I'll be surprised, and the remaining space on my bass volume knob gave me headroom I never needed.
So, I'm thinking about selling my other head (a Yorkville XS800). It's got plenty of power, great versatiliy, and tasty tones, too, but the WA is really just so impossibly sweet for my needs, the Yorkie will probably never come out again.

cool!
I also recently acquired an Accugroove Tri115 and have been really enjoying it matched with the Walkabout 12 combo stacked on top. My 4ohm Walkabout head is a little power shy running the 8ohm Tri115 by itself, but when I run the 4ohm combo with the 8ohm Tri115, the 2.67ohm load has the Walkabout power output back up to 300w (at least), and it's just a very, very nice combination. The warm fatness of the passive radiator WA 12 cab and the clean wide range of the Tri115 is just a thing of beauty to my ears.

I think there are a few folks here running Tri112 & Tri115 stacks with the Walkabout too. Yours is the first Ive seen with all 10's though.

enjoy!

Hi guys,

How's the Mesa Hollywood store for stock...

is it like the local shops where they frequently have to order heads and cabinets... 6 - 8 weeks out.

or do they keep a decent stock.

I purchased my Mesa Rectoverb from GC new, but locally there's not too much Mesa Bass gear.

Thanks

i just picked up a new, blackface walkabout 12" and extension cab a few weeks back from the hollywood store. didn't have it out on the floor. johnny there just disappeared into back and returned with it. give 'em a ring.

also, fyi, the mesa store in hollywood can now ship any amp purchased through them direct from the factory to wherever you live. that should cut out some shipping time (not to mention the driving time i've read some people out in the boondocks make to find a dealer).
