Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 6

RE. the previous post I made w/advice about relocating or adding handles to a walkabout combo, I have given this considerable thought & although technically sound, not practical. 2 handed carrying is not a solution here. There's just too much weight to be balanced in that shape of combo & awkward carrying is a price I'll live with to reap the rewards of the combo. Mesa did what was most appropriate I have concluded.
My folding truck is my solution. Getting it on a streetcar is another story. :D

A friend just offered me a 2-year old Walkabout head for $500. From everything I've read here, it seems like a no-brainer. My usual setup is a Genz Shuttlemax 9.2 with a Neox 212... but the Walkabout is tempting for the DB gigs with the Aguilar DB112 I'm waiting on.
My guess is, if I didn't like the head, I could easily flip it. He's giving me 'till Sunday to decide. Jump on it?
Do it! You won't regret.

Has anybody had any issues with their 1X12 combo farting out? I was messing around with mine last night at relatively low volume with my Sadowsky 5er...and every time I hit anything lower than a low E it would give me a not so nice sound. It was not a nice round full bottom or nice overdrive tone as everyone describes, but a thinner/farting type of sound.

I pulled the grill and the speaker just to see if there was anything obvious and it looked fine to me. I read about the internal speaker cable hitting the woofer or the radiator and causing a sound like this...although I'm not sure that's it.

Controls on the bass:
Volume: Full
Blend: Middle (both pickups full)
VTC:
Treble: Off
Bass: Off

Controls on Walkabout were all at noon, except the master which was at maybe 8/9. I'm wondering if the gain was too high being at noon, but I would expect to be able to crank it pretty well to get some overdrive happening. Tweeter was off, or at the -2db setting.

Tubes? Speaker? Bad EQing? I was expecting this thing to crush, but so far it's got nothing on my Aggie GS112's...

The 4 Ohm Scout 12 cab or combo cannot handle the full 300 watts. Like most good 12s, it maxes out around 100 or so watts. If you want to spank your head, you need more cone area. Try it with your aggies.

Sorry about that! Mentioning noon for the rest of the knobs was my subtle way of saying o'clock.

I'm trying to find a local source today. There are a few places around here, so I should be able to get something today.

I'm hoping for some reasonably priced Teles or JJ's...but this is NYC, so who frickin' knows.

I just need (2) 12AX7's, right?

I'm in!

That is HAWT...I miss my WA and headcase :( ..Why I sold it is a perplexing and multifaceted insight into my many issues..
that head in the case was just about PERFECT IMO..not too heavy, cool looks...no micro but no sled either...and with a couple of 112s easy on a folding dolly.

Does anyone have problems with the WA "Stack" not being loud enough for sportsbar type gigs with no PA? Playing a lot of alt rock stuff..love my 410/m9 combo but never had the master volume above 9 oclock..THAT is plenty loud..but it is no WA tonally

IME with your 410 you'll be fine, but with a pair of 12s in what sounds like a similar situation to yours, I lack comfy headroom with my WA.
