Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 6

The M6 would crush a Scout 112. The 115 might live.
Honestly, the vintage voice of those Scout cabs wouldn't be my first choice for that head.

You might look at the AudioKinesis TC112, or, a Fearful 12/6/1. Both will be compact, and high output, and better rated to take an M6 sized whippin'.

I have a pair of these, and I like them, but the M9 made them cringe early.
I wouldn't call this a good pairing either, and would fear for the GK cabs, over time and hard use.

Consider a pair of GK Neo 112II's. 30 lbs ea and they sound great!

I tried a pair of Scout cabs with my M6. They sounded good, but not really my thing. It was hard to take out the deep bass with the more limited M6 EQ.

Yes, with both.
The TC112 is 4 ohm, and does a much better job of maximizing power. Walkabout/TC112AF=my fave double bass rig of all time, and I will have a TC112 of my own.
Fearful, 8 ohms, not a great match, alone. However, with an added 12/6/1, or, 12sub, I'd expect greatness.

I was browsing through MusicGoRound's online listings looking for a used Mesa guitar amp (the nerve!) and found what seems like a pretty fair price ($850 shipped) on a blackface Walkabout Scout 12 combo. If anyone is interested:

Welp, operation swap the speaker from my GS112 into my Scout was a success. It is most certainly the speaker, as my Aggie speaker sounds totally normal. Sweet!

Now I just need to decide on getting a 4 ohm or an 8 ohm replacement. I'll probably go for the 4. If I need to add more cabs for volume I'll just take the pair of GS112's instead...

I checked with a top notch repair tech @ a local music store prior to ordering my scout combo & he recommended the 8ohm speaker. He was concerned about a 4 ohm neodymium speaker being pushed for too long I think. He said he had seen evidence apparently. He explained some issues including voice coil heating but I didn't take notes, & just took him at his word & got the 8ohm. You might get another 3db from the 4ohm but is it worth it. This combo is best suited for the range which allows it's tone to be maximized IMO, not for maxing out the volume. I think this has been talked about here before : If you run 2 - 8 ohm cabs to get 4 ohm o/p, each cab still behaves as an 8ohm.
Jus' sayin'. I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff.
B.
Edit: Every scout combo that I have seen ( IN STORE STOCK) over the years has been a 4 ohm & every extension cab has been an 8 ohm. What is with that??? What that tells me is, they're hoping to sell extension cabs for use other than with their own combo.
