MESA m-600 users - question!

hey guys!
I had a question for the dudes tha also use the m-pulse 600 head, how do you guys use the EQ?
do you go to extremes or just tweak around with it?
I love the versatility of this head, and I know I could get new sounds even after fiddling with it for days on end, but I wanted to see what set-ups you guys use?
write them down or you can even post photos of how you use the EQ!

I basically just use the 3-band and comp. The 3-band is the best voiced of any I've ever tried, including Alembic, Aguilar, Demeter ... mess around with it to find all the different sounds you can make with the passive mid.

I then have the parametric ready to go if I need to do any on-the-gig surgical fixes.

i use to have the walkabout so here's what i did: set it and forget it. this unit has a semi-parametric equalizer (doesn't have the Q) so you don't want to be twiddling with it like you MIGHT with a graphic. the pe is tricky to use because of the variable frequencies, but it's way more powerful for tone shaping. you pick the frequency you want and then boost or cut or leave it flat. once you got, you got it and no further action is required unless you want to change the parameters.

mesa has a very nice manual with some suggested settings. it's a good place to start and then go from there. you might want to search under parametric to gather some additional information. that's a cool amp and one that i thought about buying cause mesa's build quality is very good. i wish you well.

Pickles, this is EXACTLY how I run mine. It just so happens that the Mpulse's 3 band voicing compliments my Stingray perfectly. I rarely have had to hit the EQ switch on the pedal, but it's good to know it's there if you have to deal with a difficult room.

I really should listen to an MPulse 600 before my LMII's right of return expires. From the descriptions here on TB, it would probably end, or at least curb, my amp GAS. The fact that it's made here in the USA with a five year warranty is a very big bonus. What does a new once cost?

Roughly 1300 new.

Roughly 850 used (warranty is transferrable as long as you didn't buy it used from a non Mesa retailer).

I get great sound on my Ric without messing with the eq much. The passive mid control is my best friend, unbelievable tone shaping. I leave everything else flat, unless I need a low or high boost, which is rare. This is on a Walkabout, the 600 is next on my gas list, cause I'm totally sold on Mesa for bass. I've kept one of my Ampegs, but the Boogies are taking over.

Private sales and from a Mesa dealer are ok. If it got traded to a non Mesa dealer and you make it a point to tell Mesa that. They will void the warranty.

well, I can't say this was much help, but thanks anyway guys!:D
I mean, I knoe you don't even have to use the etra EQ to gt a great sound, but I see you can use it to get an even better sound (although that may seem astonishing after just running the amp flat)!
that's what I wanted to see, people who actually use it to it's full competence, not dudes who use it as a failsafe (no offense)

Which ones are newer, the bluefaced or the blackface?

Do footswitches come with the mpulse600 new?

Can a footswitch with the mute be used on a head that came without a mute footswitch?

How much are the footswitches new?

(if this is threadjacking I'll start a new one... just thinking we can keep the mpulse600 ?s in the same thread) :hiding:

OK, I confess. I've dabbled with using the EQ as a second, footswitchable, more "modern" sound. Solid boost at 40, a milder one at ~120-200, and a good one at 4k yields a pseudo sadowsky scoop tone. Or Boost at 30, 400, and 4k for a fat and foggy DB750 vibe. Or boost at 200-250 and 800-1000 to mimic the cutting response of an Eden XLT cab. Or cut at 300-400 to clear up a muddy sounding bass.

You can do anything with that EQ that can be done with an EQ, its not really about what the m-pulse can do ... its just a great, quiet, effective EQ bank. I prefer it for a "second sound" or "quick fix kit" ... but if you think anything is missing or exaggerated in your tone ... the fix is right there for you.

A great exercise is to boost each knob and sweep through the range while playing. Then do it again with cuts. Then when you hear things you don't like, you'll know where to go looking for them.

The black ones are newer, and current production is blackface.

I'm 90% sure the footswitch is included in the sale price.
