Hey TB'ers,

Currently thinking of getting a mesa rig. I would be getting the Mesa M9 Carbine. but the dilemma is what cab?

I have mainly played 610's. Being in Australia it's hard to actually play any mesa cabs bigger than a 410 as no one stocks them. (in Melbourne anyway)

Question is what are everyone's thoughts on the Mesa PH 610 or PH1000?

I have considered a Berg NV610 but this is all about the 2 cabs above only.

Playing 5 string sadowsky's so a low A# needs to come through.

Do you have a real REVISED 800 watt M9 or a new 600 watt M9?

I think the PH610 kills, but wouldn't a 4 ohm 410 + 8 ohm 210 (with same drivers) be better?
Not sure if Mesa has a 4 ohm 410, but if so, get one and add the 8 ohm 210 little sister.

You then have a 610, a 410, and a 210 as needed. The M9 or M6 handles a ~2.67 ohm load.
Each driver gets the same power.

the new 600 Watt M9. as I said very limited in Oz getting some mesa stuff.

the A# reference was easier as we play in a drop A# variant.

The 600 watt M9 is a great amp. FWI, A# is usually conceived as Bb, but that is just a detail. How about the Bergantino 610 thing? :cool:

BTW, IU have a revied 800 watt M9 that I love.

Yeah looked at the Bergantino but nothing has jumped out at me about it....I know lots of people love it. but a bit to spend on it without tryin it.

tried the M9 with the mesa ph410 and was crystal clear and a great sound.

As long as the off-axis faults and form/weight factors for transport work, the PH410 is one heck of a cab. Have you explored the 4 ohm 410 + 8 ohm 210 thing as an alternative to a 610. One can always start with one cab and add the second one. :cool:

Haven't explored the 410 plus 210 option yet. I have a ampeg 610hlf atm that fits perfectly in the car. the 610 option always seems easier to move in one unit and a good size no matter the venue.

I have heard the ph1000 doesn't have as much punch and clarity as the 610. the ph1000 is a little more vintage sounding

I have an M9 (updated by Mesa to a 600 watt configuration) and one PH410 and two of the PH212's. I was surprised at how much I liked the 212's either alone or together when I compared them to the 410 - of course that didn't stop me from buying all three anyway. The 410 is great when you need a ton of punch and just want to bring one cab. I've heard the PH610 and while I liked it, it was more cab than I would normally use/need and quite a bit more cab than I wanted to routinely transport and move. The two 212's give me a lot of flexibility and while they're not a one cab solution, they are really easy to handle and easily hold their own in most any venue I might play without FOH support.

I only have one Berg cab, the CN212, but have played through the NV610, and like all things Bergantino, it was really nice. I know it's not a given, but there are times when you'll get the most out of your gear by buying everything from the same manufacturer. From my experience, Mesa heads and Mesa cabs just seem to work well together. As an engineer that sort of makes sense to me, but then I also mix and match pieces as well with excellent results.

As a final thought, I've read a number times where folks got excellent results (great sound and modular convenience) with the combination PH410 and PH210 approach Jim Carr suggested. I believe there may even be some information in some of the older TB threads on that topic. I hope that's helpful.

Tone goals....well we are more Hard rock, but I have my own kinda sound. kinda old disturbed meets Jason Newsted, good low end with punch, clarity and a but of scratchy twang coming through.

I am legally blind so I have to actually fit it in the wife's Hyundai IX35. the heavy lifting is not too much of a problem..leg pressing 400lbs at the gym and deadlifting 170lbs. I see it as a bit of a workout...positive spin on it.

I also do like the idea of heads and cabs matching

Mesa PH cabs are all great sounding for that rock/metal grind with a punchy massive voicing. I have owned/used most of them. I use a modular 4x10 2x rig for the louder or more br00tal situations. PH212 2x would be great too and they are a good bit lighter (410 is like 100lbs and shaped like a cube). My PH112 has actually gotten the most use in the last 2-3 years but nothing is quite like rockin the stack.

if this helps, I am using a Mesa 2x10 power house cabinet. But I have come to realize that it is not enough even during practice sessions, cause once the drummer starts playing my bass is barely heard. I personally would rather a stacked 4x10 and 1x12 rather than one 6x10 which is what i would suggest. Go try them if you have the option to.
