Two things, if all you are going to do is record with it any of them will work. I’ve done sessions with just about any speaker configuration you can get, even guitar cabs, but none of the Mesa cabs you mention. I would also recommend adding a separate pre-effects direct send to the board as you are recording what is coming out of your cab. Personally, I prefer just a direct send to the board for most of my work, but I do understand that one can get some cool sounds out of a mic’d cab.I'm looking at the Mesa Subway cabs (1x15/1x12/2x10) trying to decide which one to get. Looking to get punchy bass tones within dense mixes - meaning the bass needs to sit nicely in the mix, it can't dominate it. I'll be using it with various amp heads (mostly tube). This will be for recording only, and I'm trying to keep the rig fairly compact.
I was leaning towards the 1x15 but then started thinking that the 2x10 might be punchier.
Any suggestions?
Please report back in the tone comparing a 2x210 to a 410 for science. Inquiring minds want to know.View attachment 7257393
112, 115, and 410 owner here. Wish I had 2 210’s. I’d sell the rest. 115 gets the most use and it’s an absolute monster of a cab. 410 is utterly ridonkulous on its own and by far my favorite voiced out of the 3. The 112 is an easy schlep and has a surprising amount of low end when used with common sense.
Doubt it’s in the cards for the foreseeable future. What I have and use is plenty. From what I’ve read on here and talking with @agedhorse, the 210 is nearly identical to the 410 just, less. Please report back in the tone comparing a 2x210 to a 410 for science. Inquiring minds want to know.
I recorded this some time ago trialing 115 and 210. Mic'd the cabs and did a "room" mic with an iphone, since mic placement varies the tone so much on a cab, I think the iPhone mic is maybe a more accurate representation.I'm looking at the Mesa Subway cabs (1x15/1x12/2x10) trying to decide which one to get.
