Mesa Walkabout Megathread!

In the UK the 12" is $2598 USD and the 15" is $2998 USD.
I phoned/emailed Mesa US to complain about the UK prices, the inteligence insulting replies were unbelievable as to why you pay nearly $1700 more to get one (15" version) in the UK

The walkabout 12" will leave the factory for around $650 USD (if that), 400% mark up justified? I don't think so.
Don't Mesa realise that they are not doing themselves any favours with the high pricing in europe? the answer no they don't seem to judging by the replies the I received.
'62, what did you mean by this ? .. in the US, the non-negotiable price for a new Walkabout 12 is $1199 USD, the 15 is $1299 USD. There are NO deals on these prices at Mesa dealers as the Mesa factory sets the price and dealers have to comply or risk their authorized status (not defending this BTW, just stating the facts). The only time Mesa gear is sold below Mesa's set pricing is if it is used, discontinued, or as in the recent Guitar Center deal, an authorized dealer decides to drop Mesa gear and blows it out just to clear inventory (which is rare).
I understand the larger point you are making about Mesa pricing being seriously inflated outside of the states, but not sure where you are getting the $650 USD price.

The Figure is roughly what the dealers will pay the factory before mark up, the same applies to the UK distributor who will also buy at trade not retail, therfore if the 15" Walkabout retails at $1299 USD it's trade price will usualy be around 50% or $650 USD.
The Walkabout alone is $999. So it makes sense to just buy the combo since it's only a few hundred more to buy the head with the cab.
It was the passive radiator concept that drew me to the combo, a friend of mine was using the 12" combo, I was knocked out by the sound/volume but knocked back by the UK price of £1199 ($2518 USD).
My friend loaned me the combo and although I was using a MM Stingray 5 it handled the B string well on a gig as main backline (no DI or Micing up).
Correction to my earlier post the equivelent UK price is
12" $2518 USD 15" $2728.
I was quoted nearly £600 $1200 USD for the 15" walkabout extension cab.

Can any of you articulate guys email a Mesa representative and find out? Maybe they are mislead by european dealers. Let's give them a chance for setting the same prices (+shipping) in europe.
I did email Mesa, after I proved them wrong on everything they wrote over several emails they then ignored any further emails, their arogance and the stupid reasoning was laughable, I think that it must have been one of their office boys.
Seems as though Mesa simply put a pound sign in place of the dollar sign and called it good. 
Anyway, I have a blackface WS12 that I've had for about a year. I've used it as a stand-alone, and I have driven my Berg NV215 and my Schro 21012. I really haven't ever liked the Schro, but when I hooked up the WA and rolled off a little high mid (800-900hz), all of a sudden the Schro is usable for me. Go figure. I have driven it to 2ohms a couple of times without issues, but I chickened out on driving it hard for extended periods. 
It's a solid little combo, for sure. I'm thinking that my next GAS attack is going to involve a Scout extension cab and an 8ohm driver for the combo.

I've used the Walkabout head to drive two Mesa Diesel 115 cabs, or in the Scout combo with one of the 115's under it (2.67 ohms).
Either way, the building better be stout.

You know, I've heard stories of Randall Smith's arrogance with customers for years, even when Mesa was a tiny little boutique whose only client was Carlos Santana. I saw a little bit of it in 1983 when this band led by coke dealers I was with ordered 3 Mesa full stacks and a 400 head for me and one of the guitar cabinets arrived damaged. They so didn't want to make good on it, and only took it back when we threatened to return everything we had bought and go with Marshall. Looks like some things never change, except the guys in the band got out of the coke business a couple years after I quit 
For that reason, I have always been hesitant to buy Mesa stuff, even though it's very good. However, the Walkabout Scout combos I find extremely overpriced for amps that only do 300w at 4 ohms. And now I see they're still up to treating their customers and dealers like crap. Give me Markbass any day of the week.

I don't know that that's proof that Randall's arrogance. I met him back then in person and he was a very nice guy, excited about his product and doing his best to produce it in quantity and yet keep up the high quality. Not an easy job at all.
Interesting story about the coke dealers you were with though. I'm glad you quit that bunch.
Note: Mesa amps bought in the states cannot be converted to work overseas. I spoke with Mesa on this, as I wanted an amp to take to New Zealand with me. I was told that the overseas amps are made with different parts as they don't want thier users to be able to change voltages themselves. and yes...in an arrogant kind of way).
