Mesa WD-800 as studio DI - All Thumbs Up!

First gig with it, it freaked me out that I couldn't find the DI level. I think it's totally awesome to have the DI be pre master so after the sound guy cut the FOH bass volume (rippin' at soundcheck then cut it in half) I thought it was a jack/cable issue because I try to keep the stage volume low. Nice to know I can up the stage volume need be and not affect the FOH volume.

Separately, I used to think every engineer wanted my tone to them and used to go post EQ. I realized via my Enabler that if I keep my IEM low with their master volume setup it keeps my DI output low. This could be an overlooked feature but it's huge on the WD800! I'm also staying pre-EQ to FOH. Not sure I will be recording with it anytime soon but look forward to it.

Stupid question, but I don't want to pretend I know. How is this cable wired, is it ok for the WD800? Both ends match, if I understand the manual correctly this should be safe. @agedhorse Thanks!

As long as 1+ goes to 1+ and 1- goes to 1-, it will work fine. 2+/- are unused.

It is a great DI box that just happens to have an 800 watt amp inside.

Well I am glad I looked at my cab to cab wire. This can't be right? I was about to get this changed to from 1/4 to speakon anyway but yikes this looks bad. I remember years back the tech said he correctly fixed this cable, maybe he was right? It doesn't look right to me. Blk/Red go together and blue/orange go together at the 1/4 inch end, but orange and red are together at the speakon end, blk is cut, blue is hanging on its own. Bat signal one more time... @agedhorse

The normal breakout would be 1+/- to one 1/4“ plug and 2+/- to another in a biamp application.

For bass guitar applications 2+/- are not used and should NEVER be connected to 1+/- in any application.
