Meshell Ndegeocello.........

She's one of my favorite musicians, so obviously I think she's wonderful. I have heard some people say she's recycling soul/funk/RnB of the 70s. She obviously owes a debt to that music, but I think she has her own thing.
Listen to Bitter and tell me what kind of music that is.

I'm not too hip on her rap/lyrical stuff either.

I prefer her playing with her sextet. Check out this video of her at the Montreux Jazz Festival:

Meshell is the real deal. One of the most important bass player/artist/composers of modern music in our time. And noone..I mean noon is more funky than Meshell. Nobody knows how to play with time the way that she does. Music is at the core of her bones and her being. She's a true gift to us all.

Dead on. IMHO, I think her ability to be "at one" with the music she plays puts her in the same category as Stevie Wonder.

I think being woman is at the heart of what Meshell does. It's just that she is not about being sexy in the sense that men think of regarding women. She carries herself like a musician and she interacts like musician. In that sense, I think she is alot like Rhonda Smith and Debra Killings, two young women, who are very female, but absolutely play up their skills as musicians. Frankly, I like their appproach. Being attractive may be a gift, but it is not a talent. I can go to the mall and look at pretty women, when it comes to music, skill should definitely come before beautuy.:cool:

To resurrect an old thread, I was reminiscing all the live bassists Meshell has used over the years, but I have one or two names missing from my list:
Jon Jon Webb
Jesse Murphy
David Dyson

then there's this guy:
I can't remember his name, someone called him 'Al' (?). Does anyone know his name or have any names to add to the list?
