Double Bass Messiest Office/Studio/Practice Room Contest

NEW FLASH: Chris Fitzgerald leads hazmat team to North Carolina

A fully equipped Hazmat team entered the Fukushima-grade disaster area formerly known as Rick Wolff's 'studio' and after much excavation discovered there was still a desk underneath all the rubble.

Rick, just own being a slo... er, disorganized. The truth will set you free!

BTW, what's that under the desk behind the filing cab? And, on the floor next to it? And the small photo over the lamp? and what's the rest of room look like, where you piled everything that had been on your desk? Just be you! Blame genetics!

Haha, you got me, Tom. Seriously, I did crop the photo a little bit to try and hide the 'surrounding mess'. No, I'll never live up to Chris Fitzgerald's standards.

My wife would confirm that my favorite saying, my motto for life, really is: Don't let perfection be the enemy of the Good.

Also, you are spot on about genetics. My late brother, Paul, was an attorney. His desks looked like mine before my cleaning frenzy. The difference was, Paul had a fabulous memory and knew where everything was. If someone were to ask for a certain form he could say, 'it's in the third stack from the right about 6 inches down right on top of that green folder.

I never know where anything is. Oh well. He got the brains but I'm a better bass player than he was. I don't know if that's a 'fair' trade but I'll have to settle for it.

That's EASY!
How many lawyers are out there?
How many jazz double bassists?
Lawyers are necessary; 'nuf said.
Bassists make art.
Art reveals life.

Highest tension flats? Rotosound 77. A little less, D'Addario Chromes, Fender 9050M.

better late than never, and Christmas time is here! For an 80's MIJ Squier P, would the right scale be these? TalkBass.com > Jazz Bass 77 > Rotosound RS77LD Jazz Bass 77 Monel Flatwound Bass Guitar Strings - Standard Gauge

Enquiring wives want to know!

Oh, almost, forgot, TORT!

I'm asking for a black guard and silver knobs for under the tree. Should be a fun project!

(And sorry for the derail)

Yes, if it's a 34" scale, those are the right strings. Long scale is 34", medium is 32", short is 30".

You may need to cut them at the tip, though, because strings have to be long enough for bridges that are through body.

If the bridge is top loaded, I put the string ball end on the bridge, then I stretch it to the tuner and leave 12cm from there.

It will look like this:

Thanks @J_Bass and @Jason Hollar for the feedback on the BG issues. I'm happy to report that the bass is now sporting a new look and a set of Rotosound flats and sounding very happy about it:

@rickwolff If it helps, I had to mess up the music room pretty good while I was doing the work...

@Don Kasper Sorry to take a dig away, but you can still hate the Magritte. :D

I don't expect I can win either the messiest or cleanest study, but here goes. Now that I think about it, I don't really know why I have it setup this way. It's grown organically from wanting to be able to reach the piano while standing with the bass but recently I've been using the stool, so....

But, you can see from the pics what I meant when I wrote that it's a "corner-less room". With those 12-foot sliders at each end, there's only about a foot of wall next to each window.
