Anyone familiar with the bassline for the verse of Junior Wells' Messin' With the Kid?
I'm hearing R 5 b7 5 b7 8, but wondering if it's R 4 hammer to 5, 4 hammer to 5, b7 8 instead.

Sorry - I should have said. I've been listening to the one on Buddy Guy and Junior Wells Play the Blues, and the 1960 version at www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-J4-rHs010 (which is what the guy whose set list I'm cramming pointed at).
Just had a quick listen to the Vanguard Years version - cool - could you share that verse structure? b9 and all! (I may hear better when I listen with decent headphones once I get home...)

Here's standard notation for the version on Buddy Guy & Junior Wells Play The Blues. 12 bar blues in C. A lot of what sounds like 16th notes on the bass is more likely guitar. This is more obvious when the playback is up an octave. Great tune!
