Metal bass, I really don't understand the fun.

why is playing one note bad? what if thats what the song calls for?
some songs call for one note. some songs call for a million. and some call for everything in between. play what fits.
did anyone ever think the OP might have been playing wank basslines over some metal riffs and it sounded stupid so his band told him to stop and he got frustrated with his band? pretty easy scenario to envision.
I saw a metalcore band (they were the opener, I didn't see them willingly) cover Iron Maiden. It didn't make them better.
No, it doesn't. Don't dis an entire/B] genre of music based on your experience alone. Find a new band who appreciates a good bassist for a change.

Me too. We had a famous vocalist (who sings in Viva Vox Choir) and he was pretentious as hell, he was the most childish of all of us with his dumb devil hand gestures >.>

Well, real music does not necessarily shine through speed. You can play fast noise/shred, etc.., but it is not real music with feel. The feel is lost in the speed, unfortunately. Some, songs hit hard and have notable bass, like Black Sabbath or Cannibal Corpse, but this is not usually the case.
Hum I disagree with that. Real music need what kind of feel ??? Music going really fast ... it is a feel ... classical music is very different feel, playing bebop at blazing speed is also a feel ... it may not be the feel you're seeking.

Check out Metallica Cliff Burton Isolated Bass Tracks on YouTube. He played in a very un-metal style. He was pretty much the only bass player who played solos and ventured into very different territories. He was a huge Geddy Lee and Jaco Pastorius fan. He was even inspired by Bach's "Come Sweet Death" to write the intro to Metallica's "Damage Inc."
