I'll try it tomorrow, my guess is steel. It would have to be some pretty tough stuff..

Im really interested now.

But where would you get it from?

Even if I could just get the raw hair I could then take it to a bowmaker for a rehair.

In my experience, bowmakers are great at making bows but not always rehairs..

The guy Im thinking of is actually a luthier, I just wasnt sure whether "bow rehairer" was an actual title

....not to mention the crisis of identity if metal was to replace horse hair.

Would you be willing to do some digging around for me over there Rob? These people probably belong to some secret society that meets in an undiscovered WWII bunker and melt down old Tyrolean machines to make the metal hair..

Hmm... to make it retain rosin, it would need to be flaky or scratched to remove it from the chunk and charged enough to bond with the rosin particles (the rosin bonds to the collagen in the hair). Sadly, I can't help you with this particular bit of science, because I haven't studied organic chemistry yet (that's next week, literally!). The hair would probably be an ion of Fe.
