Metal?

that's why, I mean, metal is not better than rap or country or jazz or indy rock it's a matter of taste.

Metal is a kind of music that is aimed at a niche and a niche means a restricted number of people it also means that people that are not in that niche will probably not like the music.

You listen to metal, what do you think of indy rock? Emo? Electronic music? Folk?.

You probably hate some of those genre of music, does that mean they are bad? No they just are very different and each have strong scenes going for them.

Talkbass has a heck of a lot of members of all ages and sexes, this means the general tastes of this ''mass'' of people are going to tend towards the more ''generic'' or established kind of music, Classic rock, jazz, funk, blues, etc it's just normal.

I personnaly hate metal and can't stand listening to it but I respect the genre and the people that listen to it, the whole music and esthetic is simply not for me that's all.

I like some metal. Mostly not the stuff they play on the radio or sell in stores though. I have a big distaste towards grindcore, numetal, American-ized corporate "hardcore" metal, power metal and that stuff that just sounds like a big wall of noise. However I say to each their own. If other people like those genres, more power to them.

More into Black n' Roll, some black metal, industrial metal some Groove Metal, Death n' Roll, Doom metal, etc, myself. Keen of the Crow, Sunn O))), early Six Feet Under, White Zombie, Tears of Mankind, Khold, Satyricon, early Samael, Novembers Doom, Emperor, My Dying Bride (except their last album... :/ that was awful) Rammstein, Shape of Despair, PIG, Until Death Overtakes Me...etc etc.

Of course metal isn't the only type of music I listen to... but I don't think it should be discredited. I dislike snotty musicians who think "it's not real music unless it's *insertconventialtypeofmusichere*

Anyway.

These days it's just too hard to differentiate between bands. I haven't really heard anything that new or different.. Call me close minded but I just feel that everything has been done as far as metal goes.

I used to listen to all types of metal but eventually I found it all started to sound the same to me. Just different tempos for different styles.

Although I was extremely excited about the latest Mastodon album when it dropped. It was very melodic with good interplay between the musicians. That is often lacking in metal. OH OH OH ANNNND---I could hear the bass on that album!!!:bassist: How often can one hear a bass guitar in metal??

Welcome to talkbass, bullfrog36. I listen to metal. I'm into band like white zombie, black label society, pantera, type o negative, etc. and I play in metal bands. and yes I'm a metal-head. some people have personal tastes in music, which would explain why some people don't like a certain type of music. they prefer different genres of music over the other. I guarantee you that there are some members of talkbass who are metal-heads. and I'm one of them.

You might like Shrinebuilder then. Lots of interplay between musicians. And they all sing. How often does one hear that in metal? Almost never.
