i was thinking that 4 pickups in forward slash orientation would be cool. or go the double p route..Too bad the last 5 frets wont be accessible.

Meteora Bass project - what do you think?

Why not go full throttle?I have more than a dozen brand new really nice Jazz Bass pickups left over from my big Jazz Bass Side-by-side humbucker shootout. (The one that I still haven't got around to editing together for youtube)
And I have boxes and boxes of bass hardware laying around, and now a brand new Starcaster neck on the way. I can't really finalize a drawing until the neck gets here and I can verify the string spacing, but I have been working up some very rough concept sketches.
I'm just wondering what might be the most interesting layout for pickups ( I have lots of them here, mostly "short" neck size).

Color probably won't be Fuchsia or Hot Pink, I'm actually leaning towards maybe a Lime Green Metalflake. Really have to wait until the neck gets here, and see what might be a complementary tone. Open to suggestions, of course!
PS: I did ponder the improbable - technically could do it, but this would doubtless sound VERY STRANGE:

I'd love to, but really have no budget here . I'm in the process of selling all my basses to raise money to finish building my drum room. I have a lot of nice parts laying around, was thinking I could save myself the trouble of flogging at least some of them by assembling a few bits into one usable short-scale bass to tide me over until Christmas... Figured 'Meteora' would be an interesting theme!
And... still stuck on the 'Three Bridges" concept here... Maybe black hardware over a black sparkleflake finish??

Yeah, that bugs me too! But I really really like the ability to string with long scale strings. First off, I have nearly a lifetime supply of them here. And also, have you ever had a gig in some hick town where you can't even buy 9V batteries - let alone short-scale bass strings? I know I have! And when the Coronapalypse has finished reducing our civilization to rubble, it'll be even harder to find a decent selection of short scale strings...
I have never wanted a meme switch so much in my entire life.
i once bought extra long scale strings and just cut the extra off the ends. seems like a lot simpler if a solution
Just a thought : I think a moveable bridge design would be a more practical concept than three separate bridges.
The bridge needs to stay where it is, it's only the tailpiece that needs to be six inches back of the G saddle.(for using long-scale strings, and having the silks line up nicely at the tuners etc.)
I'm wondering if I could maybe get radical and instead of using any tailpiece, just string thru the butt end of the body somehow... (precisely drilled diagonal holes ending in a string ferrule thingy).
I've done some measurements on some of my long-scale basses, and basically I have a window to fasten the ball-end between six and seven inches back of the G bridge saddle...

I like that look a lot! I guess I'm going to scrap the various 'use long scale strings' approaches and just keep this one a plain simple short scale... 
And my faves are the 1st pink 2 pickup version, or the last green double double.
