Meteora Bass project - what do you think?

The bridge needs to stay where it is, it's only the tailpiece that needs to be six inches back of the G saddle.

Of course, I guess I was overdue to go to bed and get some sleep I guess.Duh. The adjustable tailpiece has a lot of merit.

I have more than a dozen brand new really nice Jazz Bass pickups left over from my big Jazz Bass Side-by-side humbucker shootout. (The one that I still haven't got around to editing together for youtube)

And I have boxes and boxes of bass hardware laying around, and now a brand new Starcaster neck on the way. I can't really finalize a drawing until the neck gets here and I can verify the string spacing, but I have been working up some very rough concept sketches.

I'm just wondering what might be the most interesting layout for pickups ( I have lots of them here, mostly "short" neck size).

Color probably won't be Fuchsia or Hot Pink, I'm actually leaning towards maybe a Lime Green Metalflake. Really have to wait until the neck gets here, and see what might be a complementary tone. Open to suggestions, of course!


PS: I did ponder the improbable - technically could do it, but this would doubtless sound VERY STRANGE:

I'd use two in standard positions, and buy an Np4a and slap it in the sweet spot.

String out the back of a normal bridge - STRING THRU THE BODY

I like using flatwounds, and don't really want to be giving them hard bends, like typical string-thru-body. And to satisfy my OCD requirements for nice silks at the headstock, I need the ball ends to sit between six and seven inches behind the G saddle - just using a string-thru bridge only adds at most a couple inches to the string length. I also have a nasty habit of swapping strings on and off, which is an incentive for me to go with the quick-release tailpiece(s). These concept drawings don't show the details, but I was planning on using the same bridge hardware as I previously used for the Famous-P and the Famous-J ...

Well, it actually morphed into something simpler... I did get to use all the hardware though!

And back in the real world, Fender came out with their own Coronapalypse something simpler
