I'm looking to have a cheap active 5. Do any of you ever had the mexican 5 string jazz? any good? liked it? disliked it?

Mexican, active 5 string jazz, any good? opinions plz

I have a 2008 4-string MIM model (Deluxe Active Jazz) and I love it. The Noiseless pickups are very nice, and the active EQ provides a wide range of tones. It was my second MIM Jazz purchase. I also own a 2000 MIM Standard Jazz and a 1997 USA Jazz V.
Ive also played a 2006 5-string passive MIM model (Standard Jazz Bass V, though with the 5 in-line tuners before Fender switched the tuners to the new 4+1 arrangement) and thought it was great, too.

I just got rid of mine, but i owned one for about a year. They're great basses,great tone,necks are really nice. They've got american made electronics in them. Only downside is the weight.
I briefly owned a 5 string MIM deluxe Jazz. Very heavy and I never really liked the tone. As you might guess, though, I'm biased towards Precision basses. I bought it for $125 and sold it for much more. I am a craigslist ninja. 
Agreed. Mine was an older model (maybe 1999 or 2000) so it didn't have the noiseless pickups, but they were still the same pickups and preamp from the USA Deluxe. I loved the bass bass but the weight ... 13.5 back breaking pounds.
It took about 5 years or so, but I finally had to sell it to a younger guy here on TB. In fact, he liked it so much he sold his Modulus Flea because he wasn't playing it any more.
If you can find one that won't make your shoulder and back beg for mercy, it's a great bang-for-the-buck value and is worth checking out.
They're all like that. Best thing to do is a get a real good nice wide strap to help distribute the weight.
I have a 2007 Fender MIM jazz deluxe V. I, and anyone who plays it for that matter, love it. It has rediculous action (.040" at the 12th fret) with no dead spots or buzz. Ive never even taken it for a fret job. I honestly believe there are good and bad basses of all makes and models though, so find whatever works for you. I gutted the pre and added a 18v Aguilar OBP-1 and it really made this thing sing. I bought 2 new 250k CTS pots and wired it Vol/Vol/Treble/Bass. I kept the Noiseless pups. I've owned/own some very expensive/nice basses. This one through my Aguilar DB750/2 GS 112's however, is MY sound. you can hear/see a video of this bass and some others I have here (BTW, It's the sunburst one with the tort guard): . The audio track was recorded Jazz V>SWR SM400s>Presonus FP-10>Logic Studio via Mac. I paid $500 for it from a good friend/fellow TB'er jrug, and I can tell you it was worth every penny...
I bought one of the Deluxe Active 5 strings around 2000 after reading a very positive review in Bass Player. I was a great looking and sounding bass. I ended up selling it though because it was just too heavy and killed my neck and shoulder after gigging with it.
I think there are MUCH better options in the price range of the Fender Jazz V. I played one for about a year and it is muddy, it weighs too much, and it doesnt sound like a Jazz.
There is a KSD 605 on TB right now for the same price as a used MIM and it will blow the doors off a MIM....no question, hands down, 10 times the instrument.

No offense to your expertise, catsandstrats, but there is no way that Korean made KSD 605 is 10 times better than my American made, Mexican assembled Fender Jazz V. You are more than welcome to come over and try it if you don't believe me.

+1 I don't know what you played,maybe you didnt EQ it right..but if you thought the bass sounded muddy,then I don't know what clear and bright is.
