mexican vs. american precisions

You’ll notice a difference, but the question is whether it’s a difference that matters 2x the price for you. For me, it isn’t. If you have the money for a new MIM, check out used MIA first.
Fender’s quality control has been terrific in my experience; to what are you comparing it?

As said earlier differences mainly in the materials..... wires, pots etc.
Other than that I think.... made in Mexico by Mexicans and made in California by Mexicans.
Sonically both work well.

That quote was from 14 years ago. Things have significantly improved since then although I think it was never completely horrible with the exception of the inconsistent CBS years.

When this thread was started people didn't have smart phones to respond with. This thread is so old, I had hair when it was started. And yet, people couldn't agree whether a MIA Fender was better than a MIM Fender. Some things never change.

IMHO - On the whole, the MIA seem more consistent, but.... I have a MIM Roadworn PBass that is a dream to play. It's lightweight and
sounds great too.
I have owned multiple precisions. I currently own a custom shop, an American standard, an 80's Japanese, a 90's Japanese, and a Mexican. They're all good players. The biggest plus for and American Fender is the fretwork, neck, hardware and tuners. Mexican tuners just aren't that good. That's the most noticeable thing to me.
I have a Dec 2017 mim P bass, and it just kills, it's very light & with my bad neck & back it's a huge plus I got blk with maple board it has flame the whole length I did put a EMG Geezer pup & gold anodized pick guard. I'm super happy. If I had a MIA P bass I would have still dropped a Gezzer pup in it.
