Double Bass mic on micstand or mounted on the bass?

what is your favourite option using a dynamic mic: mounting the mic on a micstand in front of the bass or try to mounting (h-Clamp, Poor Mic Setup, other...) it on the bass? Pros and cons?
I'm now using an Audix D4 on the bass, mounted with two rubber band between D and A in the afterlenght of strings south of the bridge pointed at the table (maybe I can attached a picture), but I have the idea that so the proximity effect increases.

I like having it on the bass, cause that way I don't have to think about where I am, have I moved, etc. Also, I like the sound I get with the mic up between the bridge feet.
