Micro POG MOD?

Wow this thread went south very quickly. :hiding:

What are this "rotary encoders"? Could i replace a pot with a volume pedal and be assured it will work (i thought all pots were simply adjustable resistors. i have not heard of rotary encoders before)

Rotary encoders send digital signal when they are turned, like a small guy saying "One click left, oh waith, 5 clicks right, oh man, now he's going back again" :D
 
They look like pots, they are wired similarly to pots, but they connect to a computer chip instead of a bunch of capacitors and diodes etc.

And if i attempt to replace them with an expression/volume pedal the whole thing will explode, i assume?

No. ;) Just thought it was somewhat related (and someone might have a Mod for it :smug:).

They do, its called a mute switch/volume pedal. ;)

Yes. Analog and digital are just synonyms for "matter" and "antimatter"- if you mix them up, you could tear a hole in the space-time continuum, resulting in what we particle bassists call "quantum tone suck".

Best-case scenario, it just won't work. ;)
 
Two things:

Encoders generally rotate endlessly - so if the knob only goes through about 270 degrees like a normal pot then chances are it's not an encoder. The reason for this is that the pulses the encoders generate don't always get acted upon by the microprocessor - so it "skips" steps occasionally.

This would also mean an rotary-encoder-based expression pedal would be rather fickle.

Well the micro POG's knobs only go 270. Gives me hope! I'll open it up when the warranty expires.
