we use 2 Realistic PZMs on opposite walls. I modded the PZMs to run on a 9v battery. One of the PZMs is attached to a 3x3 piece of plexiglass for better bass. The recordings are incredible.
I use a couple of Oktava MK-319 condenser mics to record band practice. They work great and can be had on eBay for < $100 each. You will need phantom power to run them.

I used to use a pair of Crown PZM mics for that type of recording but now use a pair of MXL V63 MBP mics and am really happy with the results. Very versatile pair of mics with much better results than a pair of SM 57 mics, better dynamics and frequency response.
