Double Bass Microphone Position

In a live situation where the sound engineer places a microphone on a stand in front of your instrument, what is the ideal position for the microphone? Please note that I can't hear the sound out in the house. The show is about 50% arco so I will need room to bow.

Depends on a few things, but I tend to like it pointed at the bridge right out front. Keep it just below the bridge so you don't hit it with the bow.

If there is a lot of loud sound close by (drums, etc) and you need more bass in the mic, you could try moving the bass or the mic so it points at the bridge foot on the g string side, a few inches away.

Keep the mic perpendicular to the top of the bass as much as you can, and keep the closest loud source in the null of the mic usually around 150 degrees from the front (not 180).
