Here is yet another mic that I am currently using and having great success with (Shure Beta 98s). Running it through AI combo. I clamp it on suing the ATM clamp. The sound man where I teach let me take one out for awhile and I ended up buying my own due to the volume before feedback amount. Sometimes I blend in mic, sometimes not. So far it is the loudest w/out feedback other than an AMT. The AMT (with tailpiece mount) works great but I didn't like the thing hanging on my bass all the time.

Double Bass Microphones for live Double Bass Amplification

I have been reading through this thread with much interest, as I have been in the same situation as the OP. I have not, and never have been, happy with the amplified sound of a pickup. I want to go with a mic, but have very limited funds. I also want to stay away from condensers. The mic I have been considering is a Nady DM70 drum mic. It is available through Guitar Center for $30. The reviews I have read on it have been surprisingly good. At one time I used a AKG D112 kick drum mic and it was the best live sound I ever had. The Nady is cheap enough to try out without going broke. Has anyone else tried one of these?
I once tried a cheap chinese no-name and a cheap AKG dynamic drum mic. The freqency range was not even with the no-name, got a lot of feedback with the amp. Even the small membrane condenser (Oktava MK-012) was better than both of the dynamics and with less noise.
For recording or PA(FOH) all of them might work.
The old ATM 35 electret has the most feedback resistance of all four. All have been mounted very close to the top (less than an inch away).

I'll help you out. Sometimes, remnant 'wood' sounds miked from the bass and mixed with piezo, magnetic pickups helps immensely. Some mikes I custom make for clients bass'.
