I didn't mean to say the Beta is no good, I have a Beta 58 I use for vocals, and it's great. Only that I use a regular 57 to mic my cab. Never tried a Beta 57.
SM57 is a workhorse live mic, cheap, and easy to find. I've used a EV RE20 with good results too, but more expensive. There are plenty of other threads that discuss other live and studio mics.
lol...I wasn't say that were saying anything bad about the Beta57. I would still be using my SM57 if some A**hole wouldn't have ripped it off. I loved that mic. If you get a chance to try one, try the Beta57 for vocals. You lose all the drum bleed from cymbles and what not. My sounds love them to a point that they have purchased them as part of their setups. I did love my regualr SM57 tho. I may have to get another just to have one back.
I use either a Shure 57 or an Audix I5. Both pretty good, I5 seems to have a little better frequency response (which is arguably a benefit for bass) and I like that it doesn't have the spinny-head thing going on.
