Mid-Atlantic snow storm

This is our four or fifth snow of the season. I blame my wife.

Last summer my wife, an even more voracious bargain hunter than I, bought a like new Toro gas snow blower with electric start at Goodwill. For $20. If it hadn't been out third snowblower I wouldn't have said anything...

Am unexpected bright side is that she loves to use it... so I don't have to:hyper:. We ( I used a shovel) knocked down the first foot of snow yesterday in no time and she cleared our driveway in short order today. Down to the pavement. I guess we got close to 30" total in this storm, with more coming next week. I've never seen this many snow episodes in this area ever.

Another bright side is I had Verizon come in last Monday and install FIOS. We now have HD boxes on every TV and projector and almost all of their available HD and movie channels, all for what I was paying for but getting far less with my old provider (and the price with them wasn't bad). Got the 25/15MB and home phone package and so far this is frickin' sweet. HD picture is much better than before. Sound even seems to be better. They apparently have lots of wiggle room on their pricing;)

We have about 30" here in Alexandria. I've been shoveling every few hours, so my sidewalk, driveway, etc. are clear. Problem is the snowplows are banking drifts up against parked cars. Helped out a couple of people dig themselves out.
Yesterday's snow was wet and heavy, but todays was more powdery and easy to shovel. Dog is confused because the wall of snow is about his height and he's pretty much limited to where I shoveled.

My mom got stuck at work last night and had to spend the night there. No place for her to park at her house, and the snow was too high for her to get to the door, so she's been chilling here.

But for a business that does most of it's business on weekends, this sucks.

We're now up to around 20" here in southern New Jersey, much of it heavy and wet. Combined with winds gusting up to 45 or more mph, means lots of downed trees and tree limbs here, lots of power outages. Luckily we only lost power for half an hour or so Friday night, but some areas here are being told they won't get power back until sometime in the coming week. (Thank Ghu we also have a propane heater in our house, so if we lose power we still can stay warm.) Only things that seem to be damaged to our property is some areas of our fence, and the storage shed out back. Can't be sure about roof because it's under a lot of snow, but suspect that snow is what shielded the roof from real damage from broken tree limbs (some of those limbs are a good 6 to 7 " across, so they ain't by any means small and light!) so I think we were pretty lucky. A lot of other people here weren't that lucky. And the earliest we really HAVE to get out and about is Tuesday, by which time the roads should be fairly clear - just in time for the snow storm that's coming our way to get here...

I'm not laughing. A 10" catastrophe is laughing matter, but right now, you guys are getting a good example of what our roughest winters are. And we don't get that often.

Reverse stonehenge on aisle three.

I think we're still predicted at between 10-20". Should be just enough additional snow to start making tunnels in the yard. Screw Call of Duty... let's play "Tunnel Rats 2010".

My kids somehow used the big 'ol snow drift left over from shoveling our driveway to construct a tunnel that's about 2' wide and 10' long, no kidding. Now, I can't get them to clean their rooms, but they construct a darn mine shaft with nothing but their hands and small shovels... :help:
