Middle-Bowed Bass Neck Repair

Was just wondering if anyone knows of a repair shop that can fix a bass neck that is bowed in the middle. I believe some bowing issues can be repaired with the tension rod when the bow is near the body, but in this case it's right in the middle of the neck.

Was hoping there might be a shop that has some more advanced repair methods such as a steamer or whatever other crazy contraption exists that could pull something like this off. I don't want to replace the neck since the bass was given to me after a recent death and I would prefer to keep all parts intact.

Where did you hear the bow should be near the body? If you ever see THAT the neck is warped. The middle is the correct place.

Depends on which way the neck is bowed. If it's bowed down from the strings, that's also known as relief. And, as 96tbird said, you want it more or less in the middle of the neck. How much of it, is a matter of personal preference... Is the neck bowed up, toward the strings? Then yes, you have a problem. It could be a fairly simple fix; or, your neck could be a complete write-off. There are places I could take a bass like that here, but where you live? I have no idea... Sorry, but as Mr. Spock says - "Insufficient data, Captain"...
