MIDI Controller issue - HELP

I am having issues getting my MIDI controller (M-Audio Oxygen 8) to work on my laptop. I have a Compaq presario and use Windows XP. I went through and installed the drivers, but I still can't get it to work. My main goal is to use the controller in Ableton Live. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I only had problems with M-Audio products.

A Oxygen 8 , a radium61 and their prokey88 all went down on me.

(twice for the Oxy8 )

Won't touch M-Audio anymore with a 10 feet pole

As superbassman asked does the KB power up? Do you have it plugged directly into the laptop or to a hub, if a hub try it directly into the laptop. Does Windows see the KB in its list of USB devices connected. You have to make sure Windows is seeing the KB before worrying about Ableton seeing it.

It will recognize it in Ableton for a note or 2 and then just stop recognizing it completely. Also, I downloaded a program called MIDI-OX and the same issue happens, it recognizes the controller when I hit a key or two and then just stops recognizing it. If I uninstall and reinstall the drivers/hardware, it will work again for one or two notes, but it keeps stopping.
