Have a Soleman. I think I'm looking for more button functionality though.
Ideally I could send a message consisting of midi channel and multiple PC and/or CC messages by
a press
a long press
and the kicker...
pressing 2 buttons at the same time (Short and Long press of 2 buttons would be wonderful...)

My use case... using a Source Audio EQ2.
Involves input selection (Channel 1 or 2), Tuner Input selection and tuner engage/disengage.

I'm envisioning something along the lines of
Button 1 Long press, selects Input 1 of the EQ2, Button 2 Long Press selects Input 2. Button 1&2 engages Tuner on Input 1, 2&3 long press engages tuner on Input 2.


I looked at Morningstar but I didn't find the 2 button functionality. Did I miss that ? Who else should I look to ?

I don’t think there’s any controller that does multi button press, I think it’s too hard to code and too much possibility for errors without precision button pressing (both at the same time, and not a millisecond off from each other). Soleman should be able to do all of those options with a single panel.

Are you suggesting I setup a panel with 4 scenes,1 per button ?
Panels are on my list to investigate, haven't gotten there yet.
One question would be how easy is it to get from say panel 19 to Panel 0 (or 1 of that is first)...

No long press, but not sure why you would need that in this scenario. The 4 switches should handle the above. Wouldn’t necessarily need scene recall, CC messages should be able to handle most of this as far as enabling the tuner and such.

@Gibs210 Long press would eliminate a step in the tap dance. More functions, 1 button. At the cost of some latency I suppose. I would make the length of the press a variable so that my long press might be quicker or slower than your long press... Tuner on the EQ2 would be one example of Long Press in the Source Audio ecosystem...

I think the Morningstar options are the best for different switch presses. Pretty powerful boxes. The Soleman seems cool too, and has some cool approaches that are different. The Playlist idea is nice, and something you could conceivably build out on a Morningstar as well

Doesn't look like there's support for multi button press, but with 8 buttons, a large display and lots of options with double press, long press, 4 connections for external switches/expression pedals and software that looks good, it's definitely the one I'm going to get myself for my growing SA board.

I haven't tried the Soleman myself, but it looks to be pretty limited in comparison with "only" four buttons, much smaller and lower res display etc. I imagine the MC-8 will be a big upgrade.

I built a 2 button external for the Soleman for $20, maybe less... So 6 buttons. Big attraction to the Soleman is the easy programming using the Editor. Once I got over the somewhat clunky interface, I find it really easy...

That editor needs a UI makeover.

I haven't looked at the Morningstar editor (assuming there is one).

I recently got a Morningstar MC-8 after my ES-8 crapped the bed. The editor is awesome, web based, just plug USB direct to the computer...they have updated the device already in the short time I've had the device. There is a user forum for exchanging ideas/questions. I'm pretty happy so far...plus it has those multi-jacks so you can add multiple expressions or expansions or TRS MIDI direct from the box. Really amazing little box.

I also have a Morningstar MC-8 and it's the best thing I could have done for my board.
I only have 3 midi-controllable pedals, but it's SO much better having that interface rather than messing with each pedal.

Like @cosmicevan mentioned, the editor is incredible.
Easy to use, constant updates, and the developer is very responsive to suggestions and requests from users.

I use a Boss ES-5 and it only supports one button press command inputs. However, you can re-assign the buttons to pretty much do anything. Activate a loop, send Midi CC etc. So I have my 5 patch buttons double assigned. So I select a patch, say button 2, then when I press it again, it sends a loop command to open up my overdrive. I also reassign the Mute and Bank buttons for different loops or enabling effect via Midi. It's so flexible, I barely get passed the first 10 patch bays. I leave patch 1's bank button working in the regular way, So I can bank up. My last pre-set (5) on the last bank of the set assigns the bank to jump to the next set of banks. Ie 1/5/5 > Bank > Jumps to 2/5/5.
This approach means that for most of my ES-5 patches, I can perform 3 additional functions with in the same pre-set.
