Midi Synch Help?

Hey all,
I did a search for this topic but nothing really came up to help.

I'm looking to get an effects unit. Don't really care if its not too fancy. I just want to be able to synch its midi clock with the clock that the rest of my band are synched with.

I've never been into effects apart from a bit of overdrive and a wah pedal, but the band I'm in at the moment map a lot of the music with midi. Using a lot of backing tracks and effects.

I was looking for something where I can synch the clock, and turn on an effect like delay, or echo etc and have the timing already sorted out for me?

I don't even know if this is possible. Was never really into effects. But I can see the benefits.

Eventide TimeFactor syncs to a MIDI Clock. I've never used it, but maybe it's what you need.

I was looking at that, thanx. Thats exactly the sort of thing I want but would love if there were a few more effects available on it. Its a good looking machine and definitely worth the money.

Do u know if something by BOSS, LINE-6, ZOOM, or DIGITECH has any midi clocksynch capabilities? I've been looking but the answer is spectacularly evasive.

IME, if it doesn't say it has the ability to sync delay taps or LFO sweeps to a MIDI clock, then it probably doesn't. It's a pretty uncommon function. Check out the Electrix Mo-Fx, they show up used sometimes.

I don't know if you solved this one, but I just noticed this thread. The Boss GT-6B will sync its "global BPM" timer to an external MIDI source. All effects that use a tempo - and which are set to sync to the global tempo - will now be synced to your MIDI source. Here is a quote from the manual:

"When you have an external MIDI device connected, the
Master BPM is then synchronized to the external MIDI
device’s tempo"

I tested this when I had a GT-6B. Interestingly, the Boss metronome I have will also accept MIDI timing messages.

The obvious thing I to look for is whether there are MIDI connectors on the unit. If there are then you may be able to do the following:

1. send/receive program change messages

This allows your effects programs to be switched under control of another device (typically a sequencer) or vice versa.

2. send/receive MIDI clocks

This is less common so always read the manual to be sure. If it supports clocks then they usually can be used to synchronize delay repeats, sweep times of flangers, etc. If multiple MIDI devices are in use, one (usually a sequencer or drum machine) is the clock master and the others are set as slaves.
