Volunteer developer/beta tester with Source Audio, Morningstar Engineering & MORTRIX
Over the last two years, I have volunteered a few thousand hours of my unpaid time codeveloping this really cool project which has now just launched its website.

EDIT 17/01/23

As you may know, we exhibited the device at Synthfest UK in October 2022 under the name Midium. https://www.synthfest.co.uk

Sadly, a few weeks later there were unforeseen complications which meant we had to change the name.

After many hours of work, this change has now gone through.

The pedal is now known as MORTRIX.

New website is www.mortrix.io

From discussions on here and other places, you may recall that I’ve been collaborating on a MIDI controller for the last couple of years. We’ve now just launched the website and will exhibit at Synthfest UK next month.

Please take a look.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I don't care what it does, I want it just because of those foot switches.

Subbed --- looks great.

I am curious if you could give an "elevator pitch" for how this compares to comparable products on the market. I'm sure the screen is way up there.

Very cool! I am always impressed when an idea comes to fruition! I think the gent that started Beat Buddy got his inspiration from the talkbass crowd!

Best of luck!

I think it’s pretty well covered in the website to be honest.

All editing done on the device on a big screen so no tiny text with abbreviations.

No message number limit.

device profiles let you just select messages for the device you want to control without having to look anything up.

there are Surfaces for devices which basically put all of a pedal’s/synth’s controls on the screen, all preconfigured.

unlimited envelopes and LFOs in every preset. They have graphical representation on the preset tiles.

LFOs can have shape and phase altered. Eg pulse width on the square wave.

envelopes are 6-stage with 1ms to 60s per timed stage, and all the timed stages’ slopes can be edited from logarithmic through linear to exponential.

64-step polyphonic sequencer in every preset. Graphical readout on the preset tile.

unlimited presets per scene (bank in other makers’ speak)

ridiculously powerful expression control that has fully shapable curves, range can be limited on either end, you can have it only be active on a portion of the pedal travel if you like. MIDI messages can be set to trigger from any point on the pedal travel and you can even specify if they will only be triggered when the pedal is moving in a particular direction.

expression also has absolute, pass-thru and relative modes so you can avoid unwanted parameter jump when moving a pedal. Also has a graphical readout on the tile.

built-in navigation button so you don’t need to sacrifice presets to move up and down.

There’s a built-in MIDI monitor for tracking what messages are active.

No confusing secondary press actions - press and long press only and these functions are clearly marked on the tile.

Tiles can have as much text as you like, so no more cryptic abbreviations.

USB host capability.

that’ll do for now.

I love the device profiles. I'm assuming it's easy to add more? It's clear a lot of thought went into this. Super cool.
Yes, we intend to add many more. It should be possible for users to add their own, I think they are in JSON format if I recall correctly.

Wow, that's a pretty intense looking controller! I love the look of it and I bet it'd be a lot of fun.
It really is. It’s so nice to use. So quick to set new stuff up. The expression features (of which I’m very proud) put a big smile on my face.

I guess I didn't specify what building the elevator was in, so the Willis Tower is fine :D
