MORTRIX MIDI foot controller

I don't get touchscreens on foot pedals.

I think that could work quite well for me. I've always played barefoot to be able to adjust settings on pedals with my toes. Not always smooth and graceful, but gets better with practice. This looks a little easier than trying to get my big toe betwixt a couple of pots and only attenuate one of them, but again, with practice it can be managed.

The idea is that you do your programming probably on a tabletop and then use it on the floor.

My Morningstar MC8 sit on my desk at home for programming (and a fair bit of playing) but I’d have it on the floor if needed on a gig or studio session as I’d likely no longer need to do any programming there.

Also the idea is to not have to program on a tiny screen. I’ve never done any programming on my MS controllers on the device itself as it’s pretty tedious. Much better on a big screen.

This combines these elements - easy operation on a big screen, but one that is integrated into the device itself so you don’t need any external gear to program it.

Yeah, I commented about the screen thing because I've been thinking some units really need a foot pedal piece and an adjustable height hand level piece for on-the-fly tweaking. Kind of like the old Roland VG-99 virtual guitar synth with the big MIDI footpedal plugged in. Works well, but the stand was extra and really pricey.

As it is, I'm constantly wishing for a dowel with a split rubber tip so I can tweak knobs without falling over lol...

Very nice layout, instantly reminds me of a quad cortex look.

1 thing I see is missing, expression controller input?
Perhaps that mystery port add on area?

Price will make all the difference.
Yes expression input would be nice

Yes, we intend to add many more. It should be possible for users to add their own, I think they are in JSON format if I recall correctly.
The ability to add one’s own profiles in a non-proprietary manner (and, presumably, share with others) really sets this apart in our current culture where hardware often gets bricked because the parent company shuts down or just gradually becomes less and less useful as development for it stalls.

Kudos on what looks like a really excellent product! Now get it into the hands of some of those music YouTubers who can make me want to buy a $450 bleep-bloop machine even though I don’t make bleep-bloop music.

I see two jacks marked Ex1 and Ex2. I'm new to midi, but thought this was for expression controllers (which I thought meant an expression pedal). Is there a different kind of port for something I haven't learned about yet?

It has two expression inputs. This is what it reads on the site: "Each of the two expression channels lets you add any number of variable MIDI messages that respond to expression input. The UI makes it easy to control ranges, values and curves, and lets you experience the pedal response and MIDI output in real time."

Two expression ports, mentioned several times on the site and pictured in the “Ins and Outs” section.

Correct, two expression ports already there. There is an expansion port for future add-ons and there are some exciting things we’ve talked about in that regard.

Now that's a curious word. UKism? I like it.

Yes, it’s a British thing.

He keeps using it LOL

indeed, it’s nice to broaden people’s language and there are at least two people on TB who’d never heard the expression. Every day is a school day.
