MIJ Fender Basses, used, thoughts?

I have a japan built mustang, circa 1997. Its build quality is outstanding and the 7.24 neck is sweet. The Japanese built mustangs are getting harder to find. I always wanted one but was hoping to attain one for short money. I finally gave in, took the hit and purchased the bass! I'm glad now that i did, its a great bass for R & B!

I just picked up a MIJ Geddy in trade and the fit and finish is awesome. Plays well but weighs a ton (+9 lbs). Looks great next to my CIJ Jag. Necks on both are super slim and extremely fast.

I'm in the " I like MIJ Fenders" camp. Generally well built, many times as good if not better than many MIAs.

I've been thinking of getting a used Japanese Fender bass, either a J or P, but I don't think I'll have a chance to play one in person.

What are the necks like on Japanese Fenders? Are the Jazz necks slimmer than a P neck? Are they generally decent basses? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

For a while there my main bass was a MIJ '75 Jazz Bass (with 60s pickup spacing). I did a ton of gigs with that thing. It was a good bass, and it played well, but I ended up swapping out the pickups, tuners and bridge. This improved things quite a bit. I also sanded down the back of the neck. The fretwork was average at best. Overall the quality of it was good but not as good as Fender's Road Worn or Classic Series basses which are MIM. Definitely not nearly as good as the US Fenders, US EBMMs, and not even in the ball park compared to my US Laklands.
