MIJ Jaguar replacement pickups?

I have a Fender MIJ Jaguar bass. I want to replace the pickups and I am confused as to whether or not the stock pickups are active or passive. Am I limited to active/passive pickups options?

The pickups in that bass are passive. They are wired so they can run through an active preamp or be ran without the preamp. I put a pair of Dimarzio DP123 in mine but any passive pickups will work.
