I recently bought a Crafted in Japan Jazz bass. It is a 62RI and everything appears accurate. I checked the Fender serial database and it says Serials beginning with R + 5 digits are 2004/2005 but mine begins with R + 6 digits. R006951 is printed on the heel along with "Crafted in Japan" anyone have any thoughts on this?

MIJ Serial number inconsistent with Fender site.

Since their listing only goes up to 2005, and since it makes sense that they'd run out of 5-digit serials eventually, my guess is that your bass is newer than 05.
