Thinking on buying one of these this month... I've had a 55-02 Deluxe and loved it. Forget why I sold it, but, I've always wanted a Zon and it seems like the MIK Sonus is within my price range along with a MIK Lakland 55-02.
Taking a poll to see what you think of my choices and why.
I play everything from Metal to Blues, 99% fingerstyle. So there won't be a need for a "Slap" tone. :)

The Lakland are nice and have a proven track record. The slap tone is pretty awesome too. They can get pretty heavy though and I don't find the body shape very comfortable, probably the only downsides I can really think of.

Of course all that being said I'd go for the Zon. I have little experience with the import series but if the neck shape is anything like the US made except with wood it would be pretty hard to beat. Plus the electronics are supposed to be pretty great. I really like the Duncan pickups and hear the setup on the imports sound pretty good too. I believe (don't take my word for it) they are gone over in the US by the Zon shop before being sold (just like the Laklands) but man Zon's fretwork is pretty incredible.

All IMO of course.

Well if you must know... No I can't slap well. Back in '07 I was in an accident, (not a knife fight, jk...) I was injured pretty badly, one of the injuries almost sliced through my slappin' thumb, across the main nerves that give my thumb feeling and control.
This is why there is "no need" for a slap tone. I gave up on it. Has Nothing to do with lack of or... (what the heck was that link SJ_bass?) I'm a metal player and move harder than most guys on the stage. BTW, my slappin' is about as simple as "Take the power back - Rage"
I'm hoping with the 19mm spacing, I can start again, :)

And you were right Bro! To my surprise, the Zon has been Plek'd. I love the neck, VERY thin like the Ibanez but with 19mm spacing.
Previous owner had a pro set-up and a fantastic job at that. Action is LOW and it had some more buzz than I like, so I tweaked the rod back about 1/8 turn, now it's perfect. Still great 1mm action, straight neck with the slightest relief. Plays itself.... almost. lol.

I don't remember those pickups being dark at all. pretty even sounding pickups if I remember right but it's been a while. Don't know why the hell I even pulled them from that bass to be honest. Those are certainly better than any Mk1's I've heard. I know some people like to swap the pickups around (put the bridge in the neck and neck in the bridge). I've never done it but I know they are custom wound to sound brighter or darker and it would likely give you a different sound to work with.

You can temporarily wire them passive and see how they sound? Should give you an idea if your preamp is nastying up your sound.
