He wears cool hats and plays nice basses, but things drop off sharply from there.

We think along the same wavelengths. I was going to say that every time I hear a Nickleback song or see an advertisement I think to myself, "Yup, that's the nü-rock guy that wears cowboy hats." Not the best of impressions you want to make as a musician. :rollno:

As for the "same song" controversy, I wouldn't go quite that far, but they certainly have a winning songwriting formula that their fans enjoy. Not the way I approach music, but then again I'm not on tour or selling millions of unites, so who's to say who is right?

...I'm right. Music is art, not making photocopies. :D

That isn't proof, that's been changed so much. the key was changed, one song was shortened, one was speeded up, it's all a load of bull. They just don't like Nickelback because they were one of the biggest rock bands in the world at the time, and people always try to bring you down when you're at the top. :rollno:

True that one was shortened, but ask yourself this: was any relevant part of the song excluded? I think the proof is pretty much there: their songs are basically formulaic. Having said that, I enjoy listening to Nickelback from time to time, just because I like their lead singer's voice, and there's nothing wrong with straight-ahead, no-frills rock. But it does bear saying that they're just not that creative.
