Mike pope preamp help

Hello guys i have a 2.2 stk mike pope preamp with active passive switching and tone control stacked on volume knob. My question is it normally a very loud pop when u switch from active to passive or vice versa or did i do something wrong? Also is the tone control suppose to work in both active and passive modes bc mine does. Any help will b greatly appreciated. Thnks

I have the same preamp in my UV70. It has no pop in the push-pull switch. The tone control works in both active and passive mode - it's kind of a treble roll-off in active. Have you run a ground wire to your shield from the terminal block on the balancer board?

Thanks for ur reply! Yes i thnk i have it grounded correctly. its in a fender jazz. So there was a bridge ground and two pickup cavity ground. Those three wires were soldered together and ran into one and screwed into shields ground on the preamp. Then i have my passive pickups screwed in with pickup hot and pickup ground screw terminals respectively

A PM to Mike Pope (thepontif) would be in order, then. I had a similar problem with the Aguilar OBP-3 in one of my basses - the mid-frequency switch would pop when switching from 800hz to 400hz. I had to put a couple small resistors across the terminals of the switch. But you shouldn't have to do that on the Pope.

Hey, there should not be a pop when switching active to passive unless there is a lot of signal at the output during the switching.

Tone control is always in the circuit.

One of the wires had came loose from the battery jack and was shorting out. For right now i have it taped together but he's sending me another one for free! Great sounding pre and customer service!

does anyone know the diameter of the shafts on the stacked pots? I bought a set of knobs that I though would fit, but they did not.

I believe its 6 mm for standard pits and for stacked pots it is 8 mm for the bottom and 6 mm for the top. I ordered my knobs from bestbassgear.com
