Mike porcaro better than Gene Simons?

Face it, musician's are, above all, entertainers. We do what we do because deep down we all want nothing more than to create music and have other human beings enjoy it. In that respect, is it really fair to say that Gene is any less a musician that anyone else? Sure, Gene may not have the chops that Victor Wooten has, but then again, Victor didn't write Rock and Roll All Night!

right on, r. what's so bad about simple rock tunes anyway? they're fun, they're catchy, and nobody gets hurt.

I've never understood the animosity toward simple rock either. Why does everything have to be about complexity, elitism, speed, etc?? Rock and roll is supposed to be fun. AC/DC is a simple rock band but they're one of the greatest bands of all time, and some even consider them to be the greatest. I think KISS is in the same vein, just with more makeup and higher hills than you mommy.....

:D

I was made for lovin' you baby, you were made for lovin' me.

How could a man be hated, when he brought that gem upon the world?

There is nothing bad about it, but there isn't much there in the first place. Personally, music bored me to tears before I found more complex and visceral styles of music.

Believe me, I truly wish I was some jerkoff of average intelligence, born a small town, during simpler times, with small ambitions, and a simple imagination... but I wasn't. I just need more to satisfy me.

I do like listening to silly, silly rock like KISS though. It does absolutely nothing for my needs at all, but the sheer fact of how painfully obnoxious it is really appeals to my masochistic side.

If it hadn't been for Gene and a few others back in the 70s I wouldn't be posting here today:)

Cool!

I thought the OP meant me, Gene, and I would say David blows my chops away. Mr. Simmons, well, I do think I'm a better rock bassist, but only I would know that as Mr. Simmons has the gig and the dough and chics! :) And the looks , beleive it or not!
:bassist:

ROCK ON!

BTW, I don't cotton much to comparos between players. As most of these threads will show, its a spurious thought. Better to diicuss why a pick might be de riguer for this genre.

BTW, KISS was DA BOMB in its day.

ROCK OUT!

lol. I love Gene Simmons threads. Admit it, when you're as awesome as Gene it causes divisiveness.

I have no problem with Gene Simmons, but I don't get the celebrity thing. I remember when Vic and I saw Gene at NAMM. Vic was like, You have to get a picture of him, and of course he was surrounded by photographers. I saw Gene Simmons and Steve Vai on the same day and I still had my allegys and sore knee the next day. Maybe if I would have touched the hem of his garment..........:hiding:

I didn't ask one "famous" bass player for his picture (with me) or autograph at NAMM, despite the fact I had some long conversations with quite a few. I just enjoyed getting some of their knowledge of the business and connecting real people to some great bass lines.

Are you one of those people who automatically assumes anyone who doesn't like someone famous is merely jealous? How old are you?

I also don't like Gene Simmons. He is not a good bass player and has too much ego. Yes, I wish I had his money, but not if it came with his personality.

I never said I was jealous of anybody. I was referring to the guy that said Gene Simmons is talentless, classless and a douche bag because that sounds like a spiteful jealous statement to me. Jealousy and hatred are similar emotions. My age is irrelevant but I been a avid listener of Kiss since 1976. I never referred to Kiss as a band of virtuoso's or writers of deep and meaningful or complex masterpieces. I listen to other forms of music for that, but I love to hear simpler but rock'n bands like Kiss, AC/DC, etc. as well.

I have seen more slandering on this guy more than anyone by people on this forum. I've seen people trash his playing abilities by making claims like he doesn't play on his records, yet when challenged, these people can't source their accusations. It's always I read, ( yeah, yet people in here say "don't believe what you read) I heard, (that's credible!) or simply " because I know for a fact!" amazing isn't it?

Also I see people making absurd comments like people who listen to Kiss aren't into musicianship and Gene isn't a real musician. Then when I challenged you guys to a debate forum on what a real musician is, most replies echoed What I heard Gene say in interviews ( most recently on Shatners raw nerve TV series) about how you can make music without the ability to read or understand the basic principals of music theory. So it's OK if people on this forum say things like that to justify their ignorance to learn and educate themselves in music theory, yet Gene isn't given the same consideration buy a lot of people who can't read a note of music themselves. What a shameful display hypocrisy! ( before you throw your daggers at me, yes I can read music fluently in both clefs )

So the consensus here I learned since becoming a member of this forum is if you can''t stand a band, or a bass player or a certain style of music, you and that band and bass player are not real musicians.
