In order to apply this logic consistently: We should also disregard the praising of Kiss by anyone who hasn't sold a million records, too, right? I mean, they're clearly just as unqualified to pass judgment. Let's just go ahead and shut down the Bassists forum now.I don't think someone has to be on the same level as an artist to criticize them, but i do think that it might be fair to have achieved something before completely dismissing someone. Kiss have sold over 100 million albums worldwide I figure the poster should just sell one million CDs if he wants to so flippantly dismiss them.
It doesn't offend me at all, it's just a very un-original thought and a knee -jerk reaction.
Fenderfunker, you're right, I do sometimes get caught up in the money side of music because it's how I pay my bills and feed my kid. Someone who only does it as a hobby has the luxury of being a purist and being judgmental about successful players. I think that's a cop- out a lot of times, a justification for why people give up on their dreams: "well, I never really wanted to be successful at this. I just want to do my own thing. I'm not gonna compromise and do what it takes to succeed at this, I have my integrity."

Wait... what's this I read??? Are this..... words of..... wisdom?????? What they hell are THEY doing here???? Don't they know it's the intranetz???
I dare anybody to watch these and tell me that's a mediocre bassline.......
Hi
Could Gene do Porcara's gig? Def Not
Rob
And we all know what they say about men with big shoes...Gene has big shoes.
Now you sound bitter because you are in a situation of having to play any crap that comes along for $$$$$$.
Also, you extrapolated/assumed all that, when my point was merely that money and talent do not equate to the same thing.![]()
And we all know what they say about men with big shoes...
Well, I defy anyone to listen to this and then say with a straight face that it really was Simmons on the early recordings:
