Millennia Media TD-1 vs. REDDI

Totally different animals for sure, but has anyone compared the two in a recording session? That is:

- Bass --> Millennia Media TD-1 --> Sound card --> DAW
- Bass --> REDDI --> Preamp --> Sound card --> DAW

Never had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison, but I can say that the TD-1 is an impressive piece of kit.

That would be a tough comparison to make.

The TD-1 with a dizzying array of options and sounds VS the REDDI that does one thing so very well.

I’ll not comment further since I really don’t have the experience you are looking for.

Actually, to be more specific, I have both units but here is how I prefer to use them. In my home studio I record two channels of bass:

1. Bass --> Markbass Compressore --> Ampeg PF-20T (transformer-balanced line out) --> Millennia Media HV-35P --> RME Fireface 800 --> DAW (ProTools)

2. Bass --> REDDI --> Millennia Media TD-1 (HV-3 mic input) --> RME Fireface 800 --> DAW (ProTools)

For the second track, I can definitely bypass the REDDI and directly plug into the TD-1, but somehow I want to keep the REDDI in the signal chain. I admit I have not done any A-B'ing so far with the same looped track to see how the two options differ (if at all), but I am just lazy at the moment to try and would like to hear some opinions prior to going through the hassle.

I will definitely do an A-B though, and will share the results with you here...

Another option is to record them in parallel. One might really good for the lower end, the other the mids. Blend them together you might get something special. I know someone who records a REDDI and BAE Preamp/DI in parallel, and it just sounds lush and responsive with lots of sustain.
