Millennium 5 plus

I just bought a used Millennium 5 plus USA a couple of days ago there is not a scratch on it and I really love the way it plays. There's just one problem. The rear pick up hums loudly. :( The only time this bass stops humming is when you rotate the blend knob all the way to the front pickup.

I was wondering if any of you M5+ owners have had the same problem? If so what was the solution.

This might be the wrong forum for this, I thought I would get more response in this forum.

I have owned three of the J/MM Millenniums and never had a problem with hum. I think you should see a Peavey dealer. The Millennium system is pretty close to the Cirrus, and a knowledgeable repairperson should know what to do.

Ah, Dr Cheese one of my fellow peavey fans;)

I also have a Millenium AC bxp (indonesian) with the Cirrus VLF's. I noticed the pre amp is totally different. The preamp in the M5 PLUS USA is a circut board simular to the old Dyna bass.

I'm in fear of an expensive repair because I don't have a local repair tech that I trust. I may just call Peavey and have them send me a new pre amp and install it myself.

I was wondering if anyone had on going problems with this preamp system. I guess if you have had 3 with no problems they must not be too problematic.

Yeah, I have several Peaveys and have never heard of that. Mine are silent as possible. You're not playing in front of a bunch of electrical equipment are ye? Could be some sort of lose wire.
No I tried it in a couple different amps with different cords.
Like I said it's only the bridge pickup thats humming. The neck pick up works great by its self.

I just got a Millenium 5 plus a few days ago myself.I've had a couple before this one and never had problems but my new one had a dirty blend pot and wouldn't work unless cranked to the bridge pickup.I took the knobs off and the nuts that hold the pots in and removed the circuit board.I sprayed contact cleaner and lube from Radio Shack into the blend pot and worked the shaft back and forth. While I had it out I did this with the other pots as well. You should wrap a paper towel around the pot to keep the cleaner from getting all over because it comes out pretty fast. When I got it back together I tried it with my tuner first to make sure I was getting a good signal before plugging into my amp and it worked out fine.

I'm not sure this is whats wrong with yours but it might be worth a shot,it's not too hard and you can get the cleaner/lube at any Radio Shack. This stuff has saved me from many repair bills. The preamp in the USA Milleniums is the same as the custom shop Cirrus with the variable mid pot.I haven't heard too many stories of these going bad either. These are awesome basses, hope that fixes yours.I think Peavey sells the preamps for around $80 from their tech people if this doesn't fix it.Give them a call if the cleaner doesn't work. When I can borrow my sons camera I'll post some pics of mine.

Bumping this zombie thread as I am having the same issue with the same model bass (not the same bass though). I have eliminated lighting, outlets, cables and amp as culprits, definitely the bass.

Appreciate any help.
