My fellow talkbassers my question is do you think a mim fender bass will last equally as long as its miA counterpart even without all the top shelf hardware and accessories a pro model comes with and without those posiflex rods

I don't see why not. There aren't a lot of moving parts on a bass to wear out over time.

I agree with the above. I have a fender MIM classic 70s series strat. It a MIM deluxe line that comes with the USA hardware: tremolo, bridge, tuners, electronics, micro-tilt 3 bolt neck plate, and thick poly finish. It will last as long as any USA strat. Right now its going on 18 years old.

Correct me if i'm wrong but but i'd assume that with the advances made in manufacturing that the hardware and build of new MIM basses would be as good or better than a lot of the basses made in the 70's...... and a lot of them have lasted well.

I could see the pots wearing out a bit earlier, but that is an easy replacement.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread. If I post pics of a MIM Fender Jazz bass that I'm looking at, can someone tell me what model it is? I know from the serial number it was made in 2000-01. Just not sure if it is a standard or what.

I saw cheap 70' guitar survive, MIM why not, is only wood and metal.

I've owned a little over a dozen Fenders. Half were American made. My favorite of the 3 that I've kept is a MIM antigua Jazz. It's not aging any differently than any of my other basses.

Mines a 98 and It's taken a beating and never failed. My brother has a Cowpoke from 95, used to be mine, survived a flood and still tickin!

I talked to a guy who said he's been to both the Mexican and California plants. He felt the MIMs had more "hands on" that the Cali ones. He equated this with better QA on the theory that if someone felt/saw a flaw it would be caught.

Seems like most old basses don't have any of the features you are worried about missing, how long do you plan on living?

An MIM standard is closer in specs to a precbs fender then a American standard and those precbs basses are still around. No graphite rods or string through bodies yada yada
