MIM Jazz: Midnight Wine vs. Olympic White

funny enough, I had a white fender jazz that I sold for a midnight wine p bass. haven't missed the jazz and ain't lookin back.

white is boring. get the midnight wine

Not to ba a smart*** but she is A/B the same exact basses in different colors.


Not sure how much tonal differance there is going to be. Playability yes ,especially with Fender (or any other make) , assuming they are properly set up allowing a fair comparison.

There is definately a difference in playability between different MIMs. I've been surprised that some just seem to sound better than others, too. That's what led me to buy mine over the others in the shop at the time. Mine seemed to just have more classic Jazz bass growl and bite when compared to the others (and no, it wasn't that the strings on mine were newer).

I had this exact dilemma when I bought my MIM Jazz.

In the end, I went Midnight Wine, because as the guy in the guitar shop said, "Fridges are white!"

I've never regretted going MW, but I'm now gassing for a White P Bass or Stingray.

EDIT: Just realised I'm a bit too late on the subject. The colour you've actually chosen is amazing, better than white!

It's a cool color I like the SGM almost as much as the Agave Blue. My two favorite "new" Fender finishes.

Yeah, it was a total surprise...I saw it and fell in love with the look....I was pretty impressed with the feel and felt the sound was decent....so why not get it, right?

My Fender MIM Jazz is Chrome Red. I originally ordered it in Midnight Wine but it was back ordered so long that I finally got the Chrome Red. I later saw the Midnight Wine in the store and was SO glad I didn't get it. It's a really blah color. I changed out the pickguard and some hardware on mine and love the way it looks now. If you really like red I would suggest the Chrome Red - otherwise go white - it's a classic color.

Since when do MIMs come is chrome red?

2006 models introduced the new chrome red I believe, and "electron" blue.
