MIM Precision pickup adjustment

I have a '95 MIM Precision and the pickup height seems
like it does not exist ??? The pickup seem just screwed
in and when I try to screw/unscrew the pickup the screw
just comes out... am I missing something???

No, you are not missing something. The problem is in the mechanism that supports the pickups.

In years gone by, there was a spring under the pickup that pushed it up. The screw held it down. Now (and for a long time) there is rubber foam under the pickup that pushes it up. Problem is that the foam develops a "memory" for where it has been for the last while and doesn't immediately respond by expanding when it's no longer being squashed. Sometimes it never re-expands.

First course of action is to loosen the screws quite a bit and put the bass aside for a time (minutes/hours/a day) until the foam expands, then readjust the screws. Or replace the foam with newer un-compressed foam. Try the first option, and resort to the second if necessary.
