I hadn't noticed that... in fact mine sounds great with my fretlesses and the low (and high) mids are a big part of why I like it. I'm still setting my EQ on the MB flat just as I did woth my Thunderfunk and if anything just dial in a little bass on the bass itself.

I wonder if you can really tell much of anything at NAMM re: one amp vs. another? You're limited by the speakers on hand and volume... at least that's how it's been when I've gone.

Do you play a good bit of slap and fingerstyle? Do you find the LMII gives you good lows and some sparkle in the highs?

Y'know, I find this interesting. I can't remember another
amp (LMII) that has divided owners so much on the
same point. The owner reviews on these amps are usually
comments about how either the low mids are fat and
punchy, or about the lack of low mids and punch.
How is it the same quality of an amp is so disagreed upon?

Hey B,

I'm wondering the same thing myself!! It's amazing.

It also looks like you and me and wondering around the same threads trying to get some definitive answers on this amp. It would be great if this little sucker would have some fat lows and low mids with some nice (sparkle if you want it) highs. It would seem it does, but I haven't had the pleasure.

And this is what I'm saying!!!
On paper and according to SOME people, the LMII should
be the perfect "like a Focus but with more lows and highs.
Yet a number of guys are saying the exact opposite. Go figure.

You really can't. Don't listen to anything I say about how this or that sounded at NAMM.

Well, first, see my post above. :smug:

And second, I did not think that the LMII lacked low mids, per se, only that the F1 sounded more balanced. BUT, huge grains of salt were falling from the sky as I tried these out, so don't put much weight on my very limited experience with these heads (other than to say that I thought them both to be highly competent amplification options).

This is mostly true. You're generally sitting right in front of it, so while there's lots of ambient noise and the SPL cops keeping vendors from allowing you to turn it up to get well over it (in most cases anyway ;)), you can still hear a lot of what's going on.

However, that said, once you get past the most prominent components of the sound, you're done. If you're trying to compare things that sound fairly similar, and you're trying to differentiate between the somewhat more subtle characteristics, forget it. Unplug and move on to the next item. :)

I found it interesting that on Thursday and Friday at
the NAMM show, the Markbass booth was louder than
almost any booth I can remember. Guys were checking
gear out at levels at least as loud as I get to play at.
No spl cops till Saturday.

Tru dat... I was the idiot that got there mid-day on friday so my "main" day was saturday. :hmm:

You could still "get away" with stuff from time to time, but it had to be for a very limited time. :rollno:

Wednesday (after setup) is the real day to hear stuff cranked. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

I was able to hear some very loud demonstrations at both the Epifani booth and Phil Jones booth. :cool:

I was able to hear them. The problem was, the basses
in the booth were not anything I'm used to. (Bongo)
Also, it seemed the big bad thumpers were playing
mainly through a new 2X15 box, also something I don't
normally use, and yes it was loud.
My impressions were just that....impressions. Like Tom,
I'd need to spend a little more time with a bass and box
that I'm familiar with. On paper, I'm digging the MB stuff.

Tom... I find it interesting that Epifani has gone from
hardly being able to get anyone in their booth a few years
ago, to not being able to get near the booth now. And loud!!
Faster than almost anything I've ever seen. And no girls!!!

This was my first NAMM, but they and Fodera certainly were packed. I also noticed a lot of traffic (and some really special people) hitting the Sadowsky/EA booth, which of course was right next to Michael Tobias.

Heck, the whole place was nuts as far as I was concerned, NAMM-noob that I am and all. :D
