Mini Rigs of Doom Four

Just snapped this photo for another thread, figured I'd post it here for fun.

The LDS is a 1x8 neo 3-way that I got from Bowlus back in 2006. I think I got the AI soon after. This was the ultimate rig for playing with acoustic guitar players and such while I was living in Chicago.

I'm thinking of selling to get one of the Carvin 2x10 combos, which will better fit my needs these days.

I have the airhead version of this cab. Let me know if you decide to sell it.

Just got the Reidmar. It's amazing. Great tone with extremely flexible EQ.

I'm used to fiddling with extreme EQ settings when plugging the DB without any preamp pedals into an amp. With the Reidmar, I didn't have to change a thing. Sounded awesome flat - considering that I've written the Marshall off as not usable with a DB, this is even more amazing!

And I've come to the conclusion that manufacturer supplied watt ratings are essentially meaningless. I've tried a good choice of micro amps at the store, and the only one that came close to the power of the Reidmar was the Aggie TH350 - which is quite a bit more expensive.

BTW: The Marshall cab can be carried with one hand, so it does qualify I guess. Not saying it's advisable. (hint: it's a heavy m...f...)

Thought I'd join in the fun here. I see another parts-express "custom boutique" job a few posts up :)
Also, the Avatar SB112 on the bottom makes this a nice, scalable but easy load in/out. Top cab has rubber feet and a single handle on the top of the cab and weight is about 38LB. Probably going to pop in a Kappalite 3012LF or a Delta 12LFA in there to replace the Delta pro 12a currently installed in the PE cab. I emailed Jerry McNutt at Eminence who told me either would be a good sonic fit but the Kappalite would really be a big upgrade in performance (ought to be for the $ :)
Mounted the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 on top with metal brackets from Home Depot. Screws on the side will allow the amp to be easily removed for transportation. Couple strips of thick foam under the amp for cushioning and support.

I weighed my lightest basses, amp, and cabs tonight, and calculated the weight of seven different MROD combinations, listed from lightest to heaviest:

1. Baldwin short scale, AI Focus, composite Crazy8........27 pounds
2. Fretless P Bass, AI Focus, composite Crazy8..............29 pounds
3. Baldwin short scale, AI Focus, composite Crazy88.......37 pounds
4. P-Bass, AI Focus, composite Crazy88.......................39 pounds
5. Baldwin, AI, Crazy8 and Crazy88.............................52 pounds
6. P-bass, AI, Crazy8 and Crazy88...............................54 pounds
7. P-bass, Baldwin, AI, Crazy8 and Crazy88...................61 pounds

In reality, these numbers would be several pounds higher because I did not include the weight of gig bags, towel, bottled water, extension cord, channel strip, HPFPre, tuner, etc.

Given a double gig bag, it is conceivable that I could walk from car to venue in one trip using two cabs and two basses, despite my age. ;) If I broke the MROD rules and used a hand truck, it would be a piece of cake! :D

I've loaded-in in one trip several times with one bass, and one or two cabs, which is something I couldn't have imagined doing even 10 years ago, when a single cab weighed at least 50 or 60 pounds!

Baldwin short-scale 6 lb 5 oz
'73 P Bass............. 8 lb 7 oz
AI Focus 2R SIII..... 4 lb
Crazy8.................. 10 lb 15 oz
Crazy88................ 21 lb 10 oz
Cajon Bags (ea)..... 3 lb 15 oz
