The Peavey Micro Bass is perhaps deeper than a small suitcase but it's length and width are smaller. And it's light. I've taken it to parties and been able to comfortably play with 2 acoustic guitars and 3 - 4 hand drummers (bongos and stuff) with a Lakland fretless 5 string. No problem with the B string although it's not super sparkly (clear) and it doesn't like high output from active electronics but I just keep the master volume on the bass down if I'm using a lot of bass EQ boost.

It would be the amp that I would take if I was playing with acoustic guitars and I would have no need to complain about size or weight.

Try the Roland Micro Cube. It runs on 6aa batteries or ac. i have never used it with batteries though. keep in my in mind this is a guitar amp, but i use it with bass at low volumes with no problems after 6 months use. its quite small, maybe 10 x 10 x 6 inches? Its rated at 2watts but is actually quite loud. Loud enough for an acoustic jam in a living room. Forget about deep lows though.

The original poster mentioned his buddies will be using the guitar mini stacks. I have tried them. Bit of a joke if you ask me. Sound good with headphones though. If these are what the guitar players are using the roland will kick butt.

Another cheap option is to canabilze some computer speakers take out the computer speaker amp and put it in a ghetto blaster cab. I did this and it works great (albiet alot quieter than the roland) especially if you use an active bass or small preamp like the fishman pro platinum.
