Minimal Instruments/Bass Songs..

Dana Fuchs plus guitar, bass, keys, and drums. One of the smallest symphony orchestras in the world.

Imagine Dragon's performance of Revolution - a couple of acoustic guitars, an electronic kick, some superb clean bass playing, and good vocals.

Pretty much anything by the Police?

FWIW, I happen to think Sting's solo rendition of Message in a Bottle at the 1981 Secret Policeman's Ball caught the whole vibe and sentiment of the song far better than the version recorded with the whole band.

I wouldn't call it minimal by any stretch, but Peter Gabriel the fourth time around (Security) was the beginning of the era where his music was essentially drums, vocals and bass with the synths and guitars being peripheral to the musical core.

A lot of recordings these days seem to pay homage to the "wall of sound" ideology.

Lots of instruments, huge production/effects.

Got any clips of simple but very effective songs using, say, only two or three instruments (bass included, also vocalist if there is one).

In other words, songs that use a minimum of gear but are big on the way it is rendered.
This tenor sax/double bass clip of Parker's "Anthropology" takes the cake for minimalism. Check it out.
