Mixer Advice

I'm in the process of upgrading my band's PA. Based on suggestions from some reliable sources, I'm leaning towards the JBL PRX 600 series. I'm pretty much in the dark when it comes to mixers though. We are looking for something that is portable, has 12-24 channels, and that can send out 4 or more different monitor mixes. Any input is much appreciated!

A&H is the best choice in an analog console at a reasonable price (old models as low as $400, current model as low as $700). The Crest XR is said to be better, but is a lot more money. If you are going to end up with a lot of outboard gear ($), digital may be the way to go - the StudioLive 16 or the O1V/96.

I've got PRX 512Ms, 612Ms and 518s cabs and love them. I recently hooked that up to a PreSonus 16.4.2 digital board and couldn't be happier. You can run 6 auxes and still have two effects (onboard). Each channel has limiter, compression and 4-band EQ with two semi-parametric mids. Group assignments are super easy.

The coolest thing is that you can record all 16 channels individually into a laptop with the supplied software, which is very intuitive. If you think in the digital realm, the learning curve is pretty flat. MAP on the board is $1,999, but PM me and I'll tell you where to get one for under $1,700. It's worth it.
