MJT jazz bass build

Here’s the jazz bass body that I got from MJT after 7.5 months.
Charcoal Frost (was supposed to be aged with a yellow clearcoat but it doesn’t look like they did), closet clean.
I didn’t get much in the way of photo updates as they were working on it. They had to do it twice because the first time was sanded down to wood in a weird place when i said i wanted closet clean, no wear to the wood. So i was too exasperated to get picky on the color of the aging the 2nd time.

The checking looks awesome!! Maybe a red tort guard would go well with it? The bass looks great to me though:bassist::bassist:

Very cool color. Is MJT really backed up? I search eBay occasionally and the number of finished bass bodies available have significantly dropped off. Still hoping for a Firemist P body someday.
i don’t know if they are backed up, or just slow or both. nitrocellulose finishes do take some time to cure properly and they sourced the bodies from wildwood after the order was placed.

Nice.

Good know how far out MJT's lead-times are running now, too.

They list on their website that custom ordered alder Wildwood-made bass bodies with finish (including yellowing, aging and checking options) sell for $385. I kind of suspect, based on various other people's comments, that could be a tad lower than what's actually the case.

Yep. I’ve ordered a couple from scratch and bought a couple off the classifieds in the past. The wait time the last time I placed an order (3 or so years ago) was about 8 weeks IIRC.

I ordered a p bass body last Christmas it took 6 months to arrive, I asked for closet clean and it arrived totally checked, when I complained I was told I could have a new body but would have to wait 6 more months and pay for all the shipping.
I kept the body it sounds great just a bit pissed off that they were so dishonest when I ordered telling me 3 months, and as you said no updates unless you ask not great service but a good product

yes, that almost happened to me. if i didn't ask for pictures they were just going to send it without getting my approval. if they were more communicative and sent good pictures, you would've been able to tell them not to ship that to you. it's unfortunate that you have to live with what you didn't want or pay more and wait longer for them to get it right.

i asked for the checking on mine but i clearly told them no exposed wood and the first attempt they tried to claim that was part of their closet clean description. it is not.

my custom warmoth poplar body was $446.36, coincidentally also charcoal frost. it took 44 days in early 2018.

I believe Warmoth raised their prices a little bit in recent months. That's hardly remarkable right now but the fact MJT apparently hasn't raised their prices yet, especially considering how backed up they are, is remarkable, IMO.

If MJT were quicker, would deliver as ordered and promised, and with some courtesy to customers I bet they could charge $100 more per unit, or $485 + S&H and tax, just fine.
